About

who is grace santoli?

Great question!

I am a designer and maker. I am fascinated by processes, systems, thinking and intentionality. I show this through my work by exploring how the human desire and need to understand interacts with structure and rigidity and how this interaction shapes different modes of thinking and therefore making. Given the fact that I pivot a lot in my work, I am enthralled by how the mindset of making can be exemplified. I’m a visual and tactile person and learner and think that making is a way to think, process, understand and explore.

In photography, I’m especially interested in pushing boundaries. I like shooting in unexpected or overlooked places, finding energy in moments and spaces that feel off-limits or out of order. I’m not afraid to break the “rules” of how or where an image should be made — that conversation is where my favorite work comes from.

i am currently the head photo editor at the fordham observer.
